The Dog Pro
Scott Holloway, CKO, DOI

Scott boasts more than 16 years experience as a Practical Canine Behaviorist, Dog Training Instructor and Certified Kennel Operator .  For 15 years his boarding kennel, Chateau du Chien, provided the living library and laboratory for learning about dogs and cats firsthand.

Scott initiated and developed a canine education program after attending a dog trainers’ course in St. Augustine, Florida, in 1990.  Initially he   offered his own obedience classes and specialized training in tracking, agility and personal protection.

In 1991, Scott built the first public-access dog agility course in Manatee County, Florida.  He taught and coached students for fun and competition skills and proudly boasts that several of his graduates have since earned agility titles.

Class of '05 at the Chateau

At the Chateau, Scott concentrated on pet dog obedience classes.  His education program grew from a single weekly basic obedience class. Eventually, he added two levels of puppy kindergarten and intermediate and advanced obedience classes, as well as certification for the AKC “Canine Good Citizen” title.  He also provided “in-home” private lessons and the “board-and-train” option for those humans with less flexible schedules.

Over the years, Scott became the local canine behavior expert in Bradenton.  He has counseled owners privately for a vast variety of behavior issues, and he has shared his expertise publicly.  In order to teach young children about strange dogs, he adapted the play, “Sylvia, which, he and an associate performed on stage for the local community.  In 1990, he started writing an informational quarterly newsletter, the Chateau Chat.  His weekly newspaper column began in 1999.  You can read some of his articles in the “Petcetera” section of this website.

Scott is a well-balanced trainer.  His primary methodology is lure-reward based; however, he does not limit himself.  He has been successful as a “whisperer” as well as a “dogfather,” always addressing each dog as an individual with its own set of circumstances and environment.
